Webinar: Essential Conditions for a Sustainable City
Climate, mobility, and inclusion are visible pillars of sustainable cities. But what about the underlying foundations, such as good governance, integrity, and multi-level governance? How do experts worldwide view these essential conditions for sustainable urban development? And where do differences and similarities lie between regions?
During this interactive webinar, we will explore answers together with international experts and partners. We will dive into three inspiring case studies and regional stories, and discuss the first findings of our study on the essential conditions for sustainable cities.

The Sustainable Cities Platform
The Sustainable Cities platform was established within the framework of a grant programme funded by the Belgian federal government’s DGD (Directorate-General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid). Within this platform, stakeholders discuss, exchange, and collaborate on contributing to sustainable cities worldwide through international cooperation. The platform brings together five active members: VVSG (Association of Flemish Cities and Municipalities) – the lead organisation of the platform, UVCW (Union of Cities and Municipalities of Wallonia), Brulocalis (Association of the City and Municipalities of Brussels), the NGO Echos Communication, and the NGO Rikolto. In addition, several other actors, such as NGOs, institutional stakeholders, and Enabel, are closely involved in developing the activities. Together, these actors work towards creating sustainable cities that achieve the SDGs. A sustainable city operates within the planet’s ecological boundaries while ensuring the minimum social conditions necessary for the well-being of its inhabitants.
