On Thursday 24 September the VVSG organises the international conference 'global goals, local focus'. That day the local translation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) will be in the spotlight. After all, 24 September 2020 is the fifth anniversary of the signing of SDG-declaration by all UN member states in New York. We want to bring this historic event to the attention in Flanders as well. Over the past 5 years, local governments worldwide have made their contribution to the realisation of the 17 global objectives for sustainable development.
The conference will take place in the city of Mechelen, which was awarded the title of 'most sustainable city in Europe' in 2020. A detailed programme will soon be online, but the international conference includes plenary sessions, a political consultation and many parallel sessions on the SDGs and their practical implementation by local governments. Special attention will be paid to how local governments around the world are working on Agenda 2030 in their international partnerships.
More general information about the SDGs can be found here.
Thursday 24 September 2020
Lamot - Van Beethovenstraat 8-10 - 2800 Mechelen
Lamot is a central anchorage in the city of Mechelen and a household name within the local memory. The old brewery of Lamot was completely renovated between 2000 and 2005. Its bold architecture successfully combined the old and the new; a modern vision of the future with respect for its heritage.
Lamot is easily accessible by public transport (15 minutes’ walk from Mechelen train station, several buses stop nearby).
Participation fee is free of charge. However, it is necessary to register in advance. At the moment you are not yet able to register for this conference. As soon as the detailed programme is online, you will be able to register.
